The Twelve Days of Christmas are the days between Christmas Day and Epiphany and represent the length of time that the Three Wisemen took to reach the manger in Bethlehem. The Seven Swans-A-Swimming represent the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The "true love" in the song refers to God Himself. And the "me" receiving the gifts is every Christian.
